The Sky Garden is pegged as the highest public garden in London at an altitude of 155m. While entry to the Sky Garden is free, it is important to book your tickets in advance through their website. Once you’ve cleared security and ascended to the top floor, you’ll step into a breathtaking open space surrounded by windows and lush greenery. There are trees and shrubs and flowers, and it feels like stepping into an actual garden, which, being at the top of a skyscraper, is surprising.
The View
Due to the building’s architecture, with windows on each side, you can see in every direction from the Sky Garden. There’s a big open space towards the Thames with great views towards The Shard, and the view is spectacular, especially on a sunny day or during sunset. The north side is even more elevated, and you can walk around the Sky Garden using stairs on each side of the building.
Restaurants
Sky Garden houses three restaurants where you can enjoy a nice dinner. Darwin Brasserie serves seasonal dishes inspired by British cuisine, Fenchurch Restaurant offers a contemporary British Fien dining menu, and Larch Restaurant offers classic Italian dining. The open space also has bars, Sky Pod and City Garden, where you can get a drink while enjoying the views. There is also a breakfast option, Sunrise at Sky Garden, between 8 and 9 in the morning.
Events
The open space also hosts various events. There are events for different occasions, such as a New Year celebration. There are live music events and DJ nights from Thursday to Saturday; the schedule can be found on the Sky Garden website. There are even one-hour yoga classes in the mornings, which sounds like an excellent way to start the day.
Location
The Walkie Talkie is located in the City of London, about 10 minutes from St. Paul’s Cathedral. It is easy to get there by public transport.
