If you want to try out Japanese food in central London, we highly recommend visiting Abeno, which specialises in okonomiyaki. The restaurant is a short walking distance away from Tottenham Court Road station.
Each table in the restaurant has a grill, where every okonomiyaki dish is prepared for the customer. Okonomiyaki is a traditional Japanese pancake/omelette, which has the main ingredients of egg, cabbage, spring onion and yams.
Okonomiyaki typically has added main ingredients, for example meat, tofu, shrimp and a variety of vegetables. The ingredients are mixed together in a bowl, which is poured onto the grill to be cooked. While the okonomiyaki is being cooked, the main ingredients are also put on the grill, and added on top of the pancake when done. The menu also has a selection of vegetarian options.
The Abeno Special is definitely worth trying. It contains beef, chicken, bacon, pork, black tiger prawns, broccoli, tips, konnyaku, lotus root, mushrooms and garlic. All okonomiyaki dishes also have the option of adding Japanese mayonnaise and okonomiyaki sauce (which you can add more of yourself).
