
The project was inspired by America Ferrera’s now-iconic question in the Barbie movie – “What about ordinary Barbie?” – as well as 2024’s Brat Summer, which embraced the aesthetics of daily life and confident womanhood. These moments were transformed into illustrations for International Women’s Day, aiming to give visibility to women’s inner lives and highlight the often-overlooked depth of everyday experiences.
The project has 16 different illustrations about women in everyday situations. We have captured some of the illustrations below, and you can purchase all of them from the artist’s website. The story behind each illustration is presented as a quote below the image.

She brought coffee, snacks and a can do attitude

She conducts the ‘Symphony of the Everyday’
This morning, she ate breakfast and took notes as Martin Lewis explained how to reduce your internet bill on TV. She has been on hold for 20 minutes, following his instructions. She knows the company thinks she will give up. But little do they know, this is just one minor task in a day filled with a cacophony of to-dos.

Since having a baby, so little feels within her control, but her rituals anchor her to the person she is. Every park stroll becomes her personal catwalk. She’ll sit on her own, eating a packet of McCoy’s with a bold lip.

She never makes two trips
Her fingers are turning white from the bags, she can feel the water bottle leaking, the yoga mat is about to fall but she will not waste her precious time.

She had to go to the hard way to get to soft play
She spent the toddlers’ nap time meticulously planning a step-free route to the new sensory cafe. Feeling smug and prepared, she got to the station to find the lift was out of order.

What do you need? because she definitely has it
Mary Poppins has nothing on this woman. You never know, she thinks, as she stuffs a set of Allen keys into the inside pocket of her favorite clutch bag.
