There are interactive elements, soundscapes, mesmerising visuals and live entertainment, including performances on the ‘Light Piano 1.5’. In addition to the festival, the Power Station contains over 140 shops, eateries, and entertainment options to make it a day to remember at Battersea Power Station. You can also visit the top of one of the four iconic chimneys at 109 metres with Lift 109. You should book a time-slotted ticket beforehand to guarantee your entry.
Light Installations
Various light installations are in and around the power station. Here’s a quick list of some of our favourites.
Singularity by Squidsoup
The Singularity is a sphere of moving and changing lights in front of the Power Station’s entrance. It represents a hypothetical technological singularity at a point in time when technological growth becomes uncontrollable and irreversible. While that may sound a bit gloomy, the installation is nonetheless beautiful.
Butterfly Effect by Masamichi Shimada
The Butterfly Effect is a light installation by Masamichi Shimada that portrays how a delicate creature such as a butterfly can possess such immense power. It is installed in the water feature on the square next to the Battersea Power Station pier, and the water beautifully reflects the butterfly and the power station and its chimneys in the background.
Lightbattle III by Venividimultiplex
Lightbattle III is an interesting interactive installation where visitors can battle in groups of three on different sides of an arch. The group uses bicycles to power the lights and intensify the arch’s colour. The winner doesn’t quite take it all in this battle, but it’s a fun way to participate in the festival.
Getting there
The quickest way to Battersea Power Station is to take the Northern Line tube from the Westend, which stops at Tottenham Court Road, Leicester Square, and Charing Cross, amongst other stations. An alternative is to take the Uber Boat by Thames Clippers from the Embankment or from the other piers the boats serve. Also other means of transportation are available as usual.
Summary
Battersea Power Station is an iconic building and the Light Festival only makes the environment more spectacular making the festival worth attending.
