Cirque du Soleil returns to Royal Albert Hall with OVO, a vibrant, high-energy production that transforms the insect world into a spectacular mix of acrobatics, humour and music. Cirque du Soleil returns to Royal Albert Hall again this year from January to the 1st of March. This year’s show is called OVO (egg in Portuguese), in which the discovery of a giant egg generates significant interest among the insect community. The show premiered in Montréal in 2009.

The show features humour, juggling and acrobatics, with each insect character type playing a different role. There are spiders, beetles, ants, fleas, moths and many others. Ants stay on the ground and juggle pieces of fruit (and other ants), while moths are mostly aerial.

The main characters are the beetle, who leads the insect community; the fly, who discovers the giant egg; and the ladybug, whom the fly is attracted to. This leads to many humorous events, and even an audience member may get involved.

The show features extensive acrobatics, which are a lot of fun to watch live. The dragonfly and the spiders do impressive feats of strength. The crickets are on the climbing wall with one of the spiders, and the trampolines are the most energetic part of the show. There’s even a trapeze section, which is surprising to have set up in the Royal Albert Hall.

An important part of the show is the Brazilian rhythms in the background, pacing the performances.
