The theatre
The Piccadilly seats 1,232 over three levels, each with its own bar, which keeps the interval queues shorter than usual. Edward A. Stone designed the building and the art deco interiors are by Marc-Henri Levy and Gaston Laverdet. It is one of the more complete deco schemes still in use in a London theatre.
History
It opened on 27 April 1928 and switched to cinema early on, showing one of the first talkies screened in Britain. It has since alternated between plays, musicals and concerts rather than settling into one kind of programming, and the Denman Street location keeps it slightly out of the Shaftesbury Avenue crush.
Good to know
Piccadilly Circus station is a minute away. Denman Street itself is quiet, which makes arrival easier than at the theatres on the main avenues.
