The restaurant

Keith McNally brought Balthazar to London in February 2013, following the New York original. It occupies the old Theatre Museum building, known as the Flower Cellars, on the corner of Russell and Wellington streets across from the Royal Opera House. The kitchen serves classic French brasserie cooking: steak frites, French onion soup, roast chicken, and a substantial fruits de mer counter.

Visiting

Balthazar runs all day, every day, from breakfast through to a late dinner, and the weekend brunch is among the busier bookings in Covent Garden. The position directly opposite the Opera House makes it an obvious pre- and post-theatre choice, so evenings around curtain times fill up first. A bakery attached to the restaurant sells breads and pastries made in-house.
