The restaurant
SUSHISAMBA opened in Covent Garden in 2018, on the Opera Terrace of the Grade II-listed Market Building. The cooking blends Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian traditions on a single menu: sushi and tempura alongside Brazilian churrasco and moqueca, and Peruvian seviche and anticuchos. The cocktail list is a significant part of the draw.
The setting
The room sits under the market's glass roof, with a "living ceiling" of South American and Japanese planting, an open kitchen framed by Japanese lanterns, and a circular sushi counter. Terrace tables look down over the piazza and the street performers below, and they are the ones to request when booking. The kitchen runs late, to around 1am most nights, and reservations well in advance are essential.
